His career in aviation began after graduating from Canadore College in 2002, starting with structural repairs, overhauls, and maintenance on Bell Helicopters 206, 205, 212, & 412 at Uscan Aviation, in Alliston Ont.

To gain critical field experience, Ian moved to Whitehorse, YT to complete his apprenticeship with Trans North, earning his AME license in September 2004. Over the next several years, he expanded his expertise and gained endorsements on the Bell 206, AS350, and Bell 205.

In 2012, he broadened his experience with Bell mediums at Wildcat Helicopters, earning his Bell 212 endorsement.

In 2014, Ian and his family settled in Smithers, BC, where he joined Silver King Helicopters.
